Mesilla, New Mexico hauntings

Image
By Aaron Perez Published: 3/31/2025 Image credit: Newmexico.org      Located just west of Las Cruces, the town of Mesilla is loaded in history, as it was a frequent visiting area for the gunslinger Billy the Kid. The town also served as a legal seat before New Mexico became a state, with many of its founding buildings still standing. The famous restaurant La Posta is also a spot people visit frequently as it has some of the best food in the southwest. Near La Posta, the Double Eagle has served patrons for decades, and many activities happen in its town square. Many of its buildings are also known for their historical significance in the town but house many souvenir shops that visitors can visit and enjoy. Some contain beings that no longer belong to this world, and have refused to move on. La Posta Restaurant      Located within Mesilla, New Mexico, this restaurant serves many individuals from all parts of the world with its New Mexican cuisine, ambiance, a...

Short Blog: Transmountain Road

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/27/2025 Image credit: Flicker    El Paso has many ghosts and phantoms, its most infamous being the El Paso High cheerleader spirit. There are other notable spirits that make the city their home, but some prefer to haunt roads instead. In the northeast part of town there is a highway known as Transmountain road, which goes through Castner Range National Monument and the Franklin Mountains State Park. In this highway, a hooded monk can be seen walking with a donkey at late hours at night. He is said to cause accidents in the road and is also said to have no face. This is not the only place the monk has been seen as he also appears along the Patriot freeway on the outskirts of the city. This is not the only phantom seen in this road as a faceless woman is said to appear in the darkest hours of the night on the Canutillo side of the Franklin Mountains. This female ghost can be heard shrieking in terror and would scare those who would have the misfortune ...

EPCC Mission Valley Campus-Haunted Location Where One of the Worst Movies of all Time was Filmed

Image
By AaronPerez Published 3/26/2025 Updated 6/1/2025 Image Credit: Harold P. Warren    EPCC Mission Valley is one of the newer facilities in the college district, which itself dates all the way back to 1969. Though completed in 1998, Mission Valley has served countless students throughout its years, especially those interested in law enforcement.  Though the campus itself is new, the land it is sitting on has a rich history, even if the initial results say otherwise. To explain it even further, one must go back to 1966, when the film Manos: The Hands of Fate had its theatrical debut downtown El Paso. The film was both a ratings and a box office disaster, due to the poor quality, incoherent voice acting, plot, and the circumstances it was made. Originally made as a result of a bet that Screenwriter Stirling Silliphant gave to fertilizer tycoon Harold P. Warren, the film would be forgotten for decades, but thanks to the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 , it found a cult ...

Horizon City Monster

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/20/2025 Image credit: El Paso Times, Nacho L Garcia Jr.      When one thinks of Bigfoot, they think of heavily wooded forests and mountain ranges, not a desert. Just outside of El Paso, Texas, in the desert suburb known as Horizon City is said to have Bigfoot roam in its outskirts.  This Bigfoot is known as the Horizon City Monster and has been spotted in the area since the 1970s. Its first encounter describes a seven foot gorilla-like creature covered in black fur and standing upright. Some even claim to have observed him drinking in the nearby lake, and that he has a mouth similar to a bulldog's. Witnesses also describe the creature, or creatures, as having catlike eyes and a strong odor. While some claim it as a hoax, others claim that this monster is real, and it had established a home near Lake El Paso, which is inside the city's golf course. Others speculate that the monster was just an unshaven man who lived as a hermit in the ...

Is Memorial Park Rumored to be Haunted?

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/19/2025 Image Credit: El Paso Museum of History      An oasis in a desert city and sitting in the Manhattan Heights area, Memorial Park feels off due to its green and vibrant colors. This park is among the big recreational areas in the city, not the biggest, but large enough to count. Initially a location of a factory, the land was repurposed into the park that now sits on this hillside. The area was originally named Castle Hillside Park, but in 1920 it was named Memorial Park and it was later renamed on July 4th 1969 as Veterans Memorial Park in order to honor those who served in the first World War.. The park contains a pool, a tennis court, two baseball fields, a public library, a rental area for public and private events, and its main attraction, a rose garden. While having only two baseball fields isn’t that impressive, one has to keep in mind that the park is on a hill area, which complicates what can be built there. It also is right...

Raymond Telles Academy, formerly known as Houston Elementary

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/18/2025   Raymond Telles Academy, formerly known as Houston Elementary Image Credit: 93.1 Kiss FM Formerly an elementary school named after Sam Houston, this building closed its doors due to lack of student influx and district wide cuts. I actually attended this school myself, and know a thing or two about its hauntings. When it was Houston Elementary, the entire area consisted of four main buildings, but when it was closed, it lay abandoned for some time until it was repurposed. The former Elementary school became part of the district’s early college and the buildings were then separated into two entirely new learning institutions, one being a disciplinary facility named Raymond Telles Academy and the other an early college and pre-school named CCTA. The school that is now known as Raymond Telles Academy is no stranger to hauntings, as police have responded to break-ins late at night from its Houston days, only to find the premise who went there would re...

Concordia Cemetery and L&J Cafe-Yes, I Concider Them the Same Haunting

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/17/2025, Updated 5/30/2025      Cemeteries are usually places of hauntings, but this one takes it to the extreme. The location itself has so many ghosts associated with it that I personally suspect that they even walk nearby to the L&J Cafe and Bar. This is only my speculation, but having a cemetery right in front of your restaurant tells me that it is the main cause of your haunting. Originally the initial location of Fort Bliss, the cemetery is home to more than 60,000 bodies laid to rest, with a Mexican president even having a grave there. One ghost is that of a woman who roams certain areas of the cemetery crying and when she is approached, the specter vanishes into thin air. This particular ghost, known locally as the Lady in Black, has been photographed numerous times by paranormal enthusiasts and investigators. Could this be the specter of the lady in black or John Wesley Hardin which are seen roaming around Concordia Cemetery? Copyri...

By Aaron Perez Published: 3/13/2025 Image Credit: Motive Studios, Electronic Arts Warning: Spoilers  Created by the now defunct Viseral Games, Dead Space is a survival horror videogame franchise that takes place centuries in the future. It spans three major games, a couple of spinoffs, and a remake created by Motive Studios. The first game, and its remake begin on an isolated planet called Aegis 7, which is the setting of an illegal mining operation for a planet cracker class vessel named the Ishimura. The Ishimura loses all communication with the parent company CEC, which dispatches a repair crew on another vessel named the Kellion. After a malfunction, the Kellion crashlands on the Ishimura's hangar bay, and it is revealed that the ship has been infested by monsters named necromorphs. It's sequel, Dead Space 2, follows up years later on Titan Station, which is orbiting Saturn and has an even bigger infestation of necromorphs. Dead Space 3, the weakest of the trilogy, tried to...

It later expanded to 12 programs which gave its students an opportunity to enroll into more specialized careers in the medical field. Its original A building belonged to the El Paso Independent School District before it was purchased for its current purpose. It was later expanded with the adjacent B building, which is connected through the first floors. It was later further expanded in the 2000s with Health and Science Laboratory building being completed in 2002 and since then, new buildings have been built or are being rented out by the college. List of haunted schools in El Paso part 1

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/10/2025 Updated 3/13/2025      El Paso is no stranger to hauntings, as I have documented in previous blogs. It does have many hauntings, particularly schools with its most famous being El Paso High School. There are others on the list that are notable, but it would take research and more blogs to document each and every one of them. I will begin to do that by listing some of the schools that have things bumping in the night.  Image Credit: The Trost Society 5.  Loretto Academy-1300 Hardaway St, El Paso, TX 79903 A Catholic school locate d in the central part of El Paso, a ghost of a nun is said to haunt the tower of the school, forever pacing the tower of the school she dedicated much of her life to. El Muerto-Texas's Version of Sleepy Hollow

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 3/6/2025      Everyone knows Washington Irvin's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a story about a man named Ichabod Crane being pursued by a purported apparition of a headless horseman. The headless spirit is that of a Hessian soldier who was decapitated by a cannonball and roams at night searching for his head. Ichabod Crane is warned not to travel at night, but despite warnings, does so anyway and encounters what he believes is the specter. It is up for debate if the specter is actually a ghost or a prank by one of the characters, but Ichabod is nowhere to be seen at the end of the short story. Because of this short story's fame, it was adapted into films, the most famous being Tim Burton's 1999 horror adaptation, a Disney short, and its own TV series. Image credit: Legends of America     While Sleepy Hollow is a fictional tale based on an actual location, there is another headless horseman that roams the outskirts of Texas. This spirit is ...

By Aaron Perez Posted 3/5/2025-Updated 3/6/2025 The Lady in the Hill Image Copyright: EL Paso ISD      The oldest high school in the city, and in the county, El Paso High School was built by the Trost & Trost foundation and founded in 1916. The building features a Greco-Roman architecture, unique in the city, and sits on the foot of the Franklin mountains and overlooks downtown El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. Dubbed “The Lady of the Hill”, El Paso High School has seen countless students walk through its halls for over a century. It is also the home of the continuous student military corps in the state, which is still in operation to this very day.  Being an old school can also bring in some paranormal mysteries to it, especially if the building is rumored to have several undead spirits roaming its halls.       Its most famous specter is that of a cheerleader who killed herself by jumping off the now closed fourth floor balcony and plunging to the a...
