With only a few thousand residents, it might look like just another dusty desert outpost. Yet Naica carries two extraordinary claims to fame: it holds some of the largest natural crystals on Earth, and it is widely known as the “Witch Capital of the World.” ### Giants of the Earth: The Cave of Crystals Deep beneath Naica lies the famous Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of Crystals), also called Cueva de las Espadas. Discovered during mining operations, the cave contains enormous selenite crystals—some reaching more than 10 meters long and a meter thick—formed over hundreds of thousands of years in extreme heat and humidity.
