UTEP Hauntings

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 4/24/2025 Image Credit: UTEP   University of Texas at El Paso The local university in the city of El Paso, UTEP is home to many spirits that roam its halls. Since Utep has so many buildings, there are some who have the reputation of being haunted by spirits. The locations of these hauntings include the Old Main, Seamon Hall, the Psychology building, Cotton Memorial, The Union, Fox Fine Arts Building, and the Magoffin Auditorium. What most have in common is that there are disembodied voices in the buildings, particularly Old Main, as well as footsteps when no one is there at night. Other buildings, like the Classroom Building and Geosciences have creepy aesthetics, but have not had reports of being haunted.  Old Main The oldest building on campus, Old Main sits right at the foot of the hill that overlooks the university. As the oldest building, it is expected to have many strange phenomena, which it does. As documented by a local investigation by publis...

Chihuahua City Mexico hauntings

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 4/23/2025 Image Credit: Planeta.com   As the capital of the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, this city has been the sight of many historical events within its borders and outside. Various political figures in the country’s history have at one point been laid to rest here before being moved to other areas. The city even has its own legends on its own, with one being known internationally and I will mention down below. The other areas of the city are also interesting in nature, as they border from actual hauntings to mere legends surrounding its neighborhoods. La Popular The most well-known legend in the city of Chihuahua is also one of the creepiest, as it involves a mannequin of a bride that looks too realistic known as “La Pascualita”. The origins of this story date back to the 1930s, when the mannequin was first unveiled and people noticed how similar she was to the daughter of the shopkeeper, who succumbed to a black widow bite not long prior. The anatomica...

Ciudad Juarez: A City of Ghosts

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 4/21/2025  Image Credit: KFOX      Infamous for being the most dangerous city to live in at one point in history, just as the former was at one point as well. Ciudad Juarez also carries the infamous moniker of being the location of a major radioactive disaster, with aging medical equipment having been improperly disposed of as the cause. These scary thoughts alone can keep anyone up at night, with them wondering how such things could happen in one small area. I did not even state the various disappearances of women that have happened in the city, as this was overshadowed by the cartel killings that happened afterwards. Still, the thought of a woman suddenly disappearing would most likely point out a serial killer on the loose or worse, a satanic cult that may have been active in Ciudad Juarez for a long time. These speculations are nothing compared to the history of the city, as many battles, massacres, and disasters have happened there, whic...

Governor's Mansion, Austin Texas

Image
By Aaron Perez Published 04/08/2025 Image Credit: Texas State Historical Association      This historic mansion is one of the oldest buildings in Texas, not as old as those seen in El Paso, but old enough to have seen the formation of the republic and then the state. It has also burned down in an unfortunate fire, and rebuilt from the ashes. The historical building is said to be the home of Sam Houston’s ghost, hero of the Texas revolution and both President of the Republic and Governor when it became a state. His spirit has been observed in the very room he stayed in during his time as President and Governor of Texas. Another ghost of a Texas Scout is said to haunt the property in a tale similar to that of Romeo and Juliet. The scout fell in love with a Comanche girl, but due to racial and family reasons, their union was disapproved. The girl’s father took the life of the scout, and rather than return home without her lover, the Comanche girl took her own life instead. T...

Ysleta High School

Image
By Aaron Perez Published: 4/2/2025 Image credit: Ysleta ISD      Out of all the schools in the county, only one can claim to be more haunted than the infamous El Paso High School. Located in the lower valley of the city, Ysleta is one of the oldest high schools in the county, and has been witness to many historical events. The school was used as a temporary POW camp for captured German soldiers during World War 2. Their stay there would not be permanent, as they would be taken to bigger camps. Because of its long history, the school is said to have more than a few spirits, far more than schools in the area. This school is said to be haunted by various spirits, mostly that of young children who can be seen roaming the theater auditorium. Another ghost is said to be that of a girl in a white dress who is said to roam one of the staircases of the school. This girl, like the one in El Paso High, is said to be a former cheerleader who ended her life and now roams the hal...

Magoffin Homestead

Image
By Aaron Perez  Published 4/1/2025 Image credit: Texas Historical Commission      Built by founder Joseph Magoffinin 1875, this iconic adobe structure has been labeled a state historic site and has served the public for ages. It is also known for combining Greek architecture with that of the local adobe style. The structure consists of three wings, with the last being build in the 1880s. The Magoffin and the Glasgow estates then owned the property until 1976, when it was sold to the city and later the state. Today, the Casa Magoffin Companeros hosts events to draw in tourists and locals alike, keeping the spirit of the city alive. The house isn’t without its specters, since many have been reported throughout its history. One particular specter is that of Uncle Charlie, which is said to haunt one of the chairs in the property. Due to how much he loved the chair in life, Uncle Charlie is said to be attached to it and there are reports of it rocking slightly and ...
